Mongolian Buffet in Ames

clean and friendly. also accommodating for dietary restrictions.

Food was barely warm. Decent selection as far as Chinese buffets go. Service was decent, no issues there.

I use to come here a lot when I was going to college. After last night, I will not be back. First off, our drinking cups were clearly dirty. Mine had what looked to be paint chips in it. My wife's, we still aren't sure. I put a picture with this review. Maybe milk? I told the waitress. All she could say was sorry. Not let me get you a new cup or we will take something off your bill. Next, the temperature of a lot of buffet items were off. The steak and the chicken were cold. The sushi was a bit warm. They were out of a lot of food items and didn't seem like then intended to replace them. The steak was mostly fat. The restaurant as a whole looks like it has gone down hill as well. Stuff is falling apart. Lots of things are coated in a layer of dirt and grease, including the soy sauce containers. Overall, I was very displeased with a restaurant that I use to enjoy.

Nibbled on some stuff, but everything had a taste of being reheated or rechilled multiple times. Rancidity in just about everything. Even stuff I would consider safe at many buffets was inedible. Didn't get sick, but didn't eat much.

Appalling. This place was one of my favorite while I was attending Iowa State. However, after a recent visit I have to make a public review because this place was just disgusting. It feels as if the place has been cleaned with a dirty rag. Both the plates and the utensils were dirty. The food was very poor quality, chewy, and some things were overcooked. I ate only a few bites of the food that I brought back to my table because it was so chewy. When I went back to try some other things I walked by the sushi area and lost my appetite due to the smell. I literally ate 4-5 bites of food and paid $14. The service was good and the waitress was nice, but I would avoid this place unless you enjoy eating off sticky tables, sitting on sticky chairs, and smelling nasty environments while paying a premium for poor food quality.

I went at 5:30 p.m. all the food looked fresh and good neatly piled in their containers as if nobody had eaten yet. Made a plate and sat down and all the food was cold. Pretty sure they leave everything in the fridge and then just throw it on the hot tables to heat them up.

Food was cold and not fresh. We went at noon. Thought it would be fresh but not good at all. I only give a one star due to the soda was good. When I mentioned it was not good the dude said nothing at all. Not even a sorry. VERY BAD. I want my money back.

Definitely not as well as it was before, prices inclined, food declined, you might as well go to Hibachi and get more food, better waiter, and better food in general as well. And a better environment.

Good food! The sushi is great, habachi has good variety, and there's an abundance of choices on the buffet. ***That being said, as much as I LOVE the food, I wish it was cleaner. Just one example...The tables get pretty sticky along the edges so you know they're only getting a cursory clean. Floors, bathrooms, everything just kind of gives you the feeling that it isn't cleaned well.

I went there tonight with my family. I wanted to gag. The table and my chair were sticky. The meat looked gray to me; all of it. I did eat a lot of mushrooms there and I did not feel well on the drive home. Nothing looked clean. The food was either lukewarm or cold. I guess my ice water was okay. Never again.

Food was not good. Sushi was bland. Ribeye was chewy. Noodles were mushy. Table was sticky. Waiter never checked back with us. Will not go back.

Save your money!! Food was cold film over the salads. Bugs flying on food. Temperatures were not hot. Food was bad. When i brought it to her attention. They did nothing. Very poor service.

The food was not even worth eating. The last few times we ate there the food has been hit or miss. One thing is for certain I will not eat there again. The food was either warm or cold. The server brought me a dirty cup for my hot tea. They won't be there much longer unless they have a change of attitude. And once again serve quality food.

Absolutely amazing. So many choices. Everyone I tried was delicious. Definitely recommend. Planning on taking family and friends here soon

If I needed a two legged non english speaking human dog to rush me out the door I would of stayed home.Also the two legged dog acted like they were super busy and they needed table we were at.Plus we were resting in between going back and I guess that's not allowed there.Oh talked to manager and he acted like we as paying customers we didnt matter dismissed us. The waiter and manager started talking in Chinese as we were not there.I will support another bussiness before I set foot in you're establishment EVER!My friends & I should be able to come into anyplace of bussiness take our time & enjoy ourselves and we should of got meal discounted.Anes resident

For a Mongolian buffet in Iowa, it's pretty good. Lots of choices and I love the sashimi (aka sushi for those who don't know the difference).

The food could of been More fresh, didn't seem like they refreshed anything for 4 - 6 hrs. The food tasted awesome if you can get by the crispy leftovers. For the price it wasn't bad, just wish it was fresher food.

Was horrible. Dirty raw product on line was thawed out not frozen any longer. Waiting for someone to get sick.

While there is a pretty good selection of dishes, most of them are very Bland. Most of the food on the hot tables, was more of a warm temperature then hot. The inside of this place is super run down and need some TLC.

I was looking for a buffet place on Google and this showed up. I did not look at reviews only noted 1 money sign and a 3 1/2 star review. Variety of food -- American and Chinese dishes. I'm not a person that likes to give damaging reviews but got to give 1 star. Food was warm. Much of the food looked good but was lacking flavor. Many of the foods tasted like lard. Banana cream pie looked good but was off putting after seeing way over riped bananas in the dish. I give props to the butter bread bun and broccoli salad which I found good. 2 guests with drinks came to $19.59 on a Saturday afternoon. Bathroom looked nasty. Spiderwebs and funky looking light switch. Cleanliness of bathroom shows quality of kitchen - I'm sure.

I was there a couple weeks ago but I felt like I needed to share. The food was alright, good variety but it was mostly warm. My biggest issue was when I went to wash my hands and one of the waitresses came in USED THE BATHROOM AND DID NOT WASH HER HANDS!!! I definitely wont be going back!

Love this place and the food but dont like that the staff is so pushy about paying the bill or that they follow you if you go pay it yourself. I had to start doing that after one of the waitress not once but three times kept my change as her tip without even asking or attempting to give it to me. I found that extremely rude and never tipped her again.

Great place to eat. Food is always fresh. The employees are nice and accommodating. Did not have to ask to have dishes removed or drinks refilled. Love the food.

Service was good, the food was lousy, the bathrooms were disgusting, the place needs to be cleaner. I wouldn't recommend this place too eat.

Advice go on an empty stomach they have great food

I will not be returning! Dirty, needs maintenance in several areas such as a warped door to the women's restroom, updates also need to be done! Cleaning supplies sitting under sink where children can get to them!:(Friendly service though. Fish tank needs to be kept clean! Food appearance wasn't all that appealing and fresh, but a good variety! Needs a good overhaul!

Walking in, first you notice the broken signage and dirty windows. Then you see the fish pond with all the plastic floating in it and the broken railing that keeps your kids out of it. Greeted by half attentive staff, you get seated at a sticky table. To their credit, wiped down again after saying something. The food is mediocre at best. My 8yr old was able to identify several mistakes in the food labeling. The Mongolian grill side was just as disappointing as the buffet. The sauces were all mixed together and something just didnt taste right. The spicy oil was not hot. The garlic oil was not garlicky. But still, there was a fair amount of patrons in there. Definitely go to another buffet if that's what you're looking for. And huhot is way better on the grill side. I've been warned about getting double charged by locals, so I'm gonna watch my statement.

Always a great selection of good food. Build your bowl to suit, watch them cook it in front of u. Good sushi roll selection. Great price!

For starters I think they have taken wonderful measurements to protect both staff and customers. Multiple sanitation stations and staff is very kind/helpful. Some of the chicken is a little bit hard but very good flavor. Rice and noodles were great, love the sauces available. Besides the question of some foods being a little chewy, cosmetically there are multiple updates needed. Entryway water pond has metal railing that’s a rust bucket waiting for a kid to fall over. The food I had was good, but they need to work on cleaning the place up.

I've been here many times. Most of the time it's pretty good but today the grill food was dry with a charred taste and not very good. I have to say I'm disappointed. Also very unclean. Has greatly gone downhill overtime.

Prior reviews stated that the food was cold.. I went thinking that it can’t be that bad... umm, wrong! The fried fish was mushy and cold! Really cold! The crab rangoons were also cold too. I called and asked the prices as, they are not online. When we received our check, it was $4.00 higher, than I was quoted in the phone. Highly disappointed! I pray we don’t get food poisoning!!

Food an service was great however our bill said it was 26.95 an my card was charged 32.11I didn't realize it till I was back home in Des Moines an I tried calling to speak to someone about it an didn't get an answer.

Food is OK. Dishes, table I ate on and silverware dirty. My arms stuck to the table. Makes you wonder how clean the kitchen is. Wait staff sometimes attentive, sometimes not.

Great buffet with excellent rib eye steak, crab legs, Mongolian grill, sushi bar, and nice atmosphere.

Literally the best Chinese buffet in Ames, because it's the only Chinese buffet in Ames... Not to knock on Mongolian Buffet, but it's your typical run of the mill Chinese buffet restaurant that is typically found in many Midwest cities/towns. As per usual, there is a bunch of different flavored chicken (that all tastes like orange chicken from Panda Express) and a "sushi bar" that serves unrefined maki rolls. The distinguishing feature of this buffet is the Mongolian grill. Typically, people like to fry noodles with their Mongolian grill mix, but I prefer getting fried rice and jazzing it up with a few ingredients from the Mongolian counter. This place is excellent for large parties and everyone will typically be able to find something that they enjoy eating. Prices are quite reasonable for a buffet and the service is normal Chinese restaurant quality.

Plenty of food options. Visited few times, it was the same experience (good), but it was few years ago. Not sure if it's the same these days.

I hate to even give this place 1 star.. the food used to be really good but i just ate here and my friends and i all found hair in our food and everything was cold and dried up, they wouldn’t discount our bill and we received terrible customer service. I wont be eating here again
